CHRISTMAS BUS TRIP TO NEW HOPE, PA

Response to Buena Boro Residents Regarding the Recent Social Media post from Minotola Volunteer Fire Company on Behalf of Buena Boro Council:

Buena Boro Council IS NOT considering closing Minotola Volunteer Fire Company. The fire company is a completely separate entity than the elected Minotola Fire Commissioners. The fire company cannot be closed by Buena Boro Council. If you were advised that Boro Council was closing Minotola Fire Company, that was false information.

Ordinance 715 is being considered by Buena Boro Council to dissolve the Fire District #2 Fire Commissioners as a result of a petition received and certified by the Atlantic County Clerk’s Office. The Boro is obligated to act on this petition. There are pros and cons on both sides of this petition that will be considered during a public hearing for this ordinance.

It is important to note that in the State of New Jersey there are 525 municipal run fire departments and 186 departments operated by elected commissioners. In Atlantic County, there are 8 municipal run fire departments staffed solely with volunteer firefighters. Estell Manor, Absecon, Galloway, Woodbine and Newfield are a sampling of the departments that currently operate as volunteer fire departments under the supervision of their municipality in Southern New Jersey.

We would like to reiterate that the consideration of this ordinance has nothing to do with the fire company. Please be advised that Buena Boro Council has a duty to the residents to consider the petition presented and the fire company should not try to stop the voting public from having their hearing and input by threatening to discontinue their mission and sworn duty to protect property and lives regardless of whether the vote is in favor of dissolving District #2 or continuing to have District #2 operate under the supervision of the current fire commissioners.
